Oma Faye Boyd, 71, of Newark, DE, passed away April 24, 2013 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Haysi, VA on May 20, 1941, Faye was the daughter of the late Freeman and Bertha Fuller Sykes. She worked as a CNA at Newark Manor Nursing Home for over 40 years. She was one of the first recipients of the Delaware Healthcare Facilities Certified Nursing Assistant “All Star Award” in 2001. She loved Carvel’s music and attending bluegrass music festivals with him, where they would camp and spend time with family and friends. She also loved fishing at Sunset Lake and cooking for her family. Her caring nature and warm smile made her loved by everyone she met.
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Carvel Boyd of Newark; a son, Jeffrey K. Boyd of Chesapeake City, MD; three grandchildren, Michael D. Boyd of Newark, DE, David K. Boyd of Cochranville, PA and Jeffrey K. Boyd, Jr. of Chesapeake City; a brother, Billy J. Sykes and companion Rita Moore of Newark, and sister Shirley Sykes Deel and her husband Billy of Haysi, VA. She was preceded in death by her son, Ronnie; two brothers, Robert and Joe; and sisters Janet and Joyce.
A service honoring her life will be held at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main St., Newark, DE 19711 on Tuesday April 30, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. Friends and family may call at the funeral home beginning at 10:00. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in Elkton.
