NORMAN J. FREDERICK – Obituary
Norman John Frederick, age 89 of Newark, DE passed away on September 21, 2024. He was born on August 17, 1935 in Kenosha, WI to the late Matthew Charles Frederick and Margaret Eleanor (Deak) Frederick.
Norm was gifted by God with a spirit of service, discernment and fellowship. He was a servant of the Lord and sought to honor Him throughout his life. Norm entered the St. Francis Seminary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was ordained as a Catholic priest in 1961. He served as an associate pastor for three parishes over the next decade. In the 60’s he also became involved in political and social issues in the Milwaukee area. He was especially proud of developing a meal program at St. Francis with the support of many churches and businesses in the inner-city of Milwaukee that continues to this day.
In the early 70’s, he set out on a spiritual journey outside of the church and politics. He criss-crossed the world and lived in various communities including in the Mojave Desert, India, Berkeley, CA and Ithaca, NY.
During this journey, he met his wife, Pamela Cruden. They traveled from California to the East, joined a new non-denominational Christian church in 1976, and settled in Newark, DE. There they undertook a major project renovating a historic church into a residence and raised two children, Heidi (Frederick) Erney and David Frederick.
Norm worked as a general contractor and construction manager and was owner of New LIfe Builders. He retired in 2000 and continued a long season of ministry and prayer fellowship.
He was involved with intercessory prayer, healing and deliverance ministries for almost 50 years, and he attended several churches in the Delaware and Pennsylvania area. He was on the board of directors of Love In the Name of Christ, which connected with over 100 churches in New Castle Co., Delaware.
In recent years, Norm thoroughly enjoyed fellowship with friends and the spiritual community, often holding prayer meetings in the Upper Room at his house.
He directed us to always “grow in age, grace and wisdom” and he demonstrated a consistent desire to serve others. We will remember his love of feeding birds, gentle ‘dad strength’, kindness, patience and unwavering faith.
Norman was predeceased by his wife of almost 46 years, Pamela Rose (Cruden) Frederick. He is survived by his daughter, Heidi (Frederick) Erney (husband Philip); son, David Frederick (wife Gabby); and five grandchildren: Branson Erney, Paige Erney, Simone Erney, Benjamin Frederick and Emma Frederick. He was also predeceased by his brother Donald Frederick, sister Barbara (Frederick) Jackson, and is survived by his sister, Joyce (Frederick) Boivin and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
