Norma Lee Knox of Newark, DE passed away on Thursday, March 23, 2017. She was born in 1936 to the late Walter and Edna (French) Foraker.
Norma was a graduate of Newark High School Class of 1954. She was a homemaker prior to pursuing a career with the Christina School District as a baker and eventually a manager of several elementary school cafeterias. Norma was dedicated to the Firefighters Ladies Auxiliary at the local and county levels. She was a life member of the Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder Company Ladies Auxiliary with 53 years of active service, holding offices such as President, Treasurer, and Director Emeritus, as well as Assistant Treasurer and Treasurer for the New Castle County Firefighter Ladies Auxiliary. Norma also enjoyed many other interests including being an avid bowler at Blue Hen Lanes, and a very creative soul, she custom decorated cakes, loved flower arranging, and often amazed family and friends with her beautiful paintings.
In addition to her parents, Norma is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Raymond; their daughter, Sharon Skidmore; and her brother, Warren Foraker. She is survived by her son, James Knox (Rosa Nolan), son-in-law Stephen Skidmore, grandchildren; Jennifer Scott (Jon), Stephanie Skidmore, Michael Knox, and Deborah Knox, great-grandchildren; Gavin Ward, Dylan Skidmore and Brantley Scott, and several nieces and nephews.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, March 28 from 6 to 8pm at Aetna Hall Station 8 – 410 Ogletown Rd., Newark, DE 19711. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 29 at 9:30 AM with a visitation a half hour prior in the Aetna Hall. Burial will follow at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Ladies Auxiliary of Aetna Hose, Hook and Ladder, P.O. Box 7862, Newark, DE 19714.
