Nancy Rowan Wootten age 81, shown on the left, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 7, 2024, in Wilmington, DE. She was born on January 10, 1943, in Wilmington, DE, to the late William Alton Wootten and the late Violet Rowan Wootten. Nancy was one of two children, her brother William Alton Wootten died as an infant in 1939. Nancy is survived by her cousins Virginia Wootten Coxe and Bernice Taylor Rowan.
Nancy graduated from the University of Delaware with an Art History degree and a graduate degree. Over the years, she worked at the Winterthur Museum and volunteered at the University of Delaware and at the churches she attended.
Nancy was a devout Christian and was always ready to speak about the Lord to all she met. Nancy was a great inspiration to others and supported missionary friends in Korea with her prayers. She volunteered in various churches and most recently attended the Maranatha Baptist Church in Elkton, Maryland.
Nancy enjoyed art, painting, sketching, sculpture, photography, and especially writing. She wrote poems, meditations on scripture, and worked on two unpublished books during her life. Three of her writings are titled, “Trust in God, versus Trust in the Negative; it is a choice,” and “Have Faith in God,” and “Is Your God Able to Deliver You from a Den of Lions?”
Nancy found her passion for international students that attended the University of Delaware. She served as the host family for several students and was enthusiastic and creative in finding things to do and places to take them. She volunteered at the ELI, the University’s English Language Institute. She hoped that one of the books she was working on would be used to reach out to the Chinese people.
Nancy loved all animals, especially cats which she had as pets throughout her life. At her childhood home for a time, she also had a pet possum and a pet racoon.
Nancy’s graveside service will be private at the Head of Christiana Church Cemetery.
