Patricia Ann (Hulstine) Horney passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 at the age of 91. Pat was born in Rowlesburg, West Virginia to the late John Lee and Esther Hulstine. She taught in a one room schoolhouse in her beloved rural hometown. Pat came to Delaware after meeting and marrying her loving and devoted husband, ‘Coach’ William (Bill) Horney. As her burial attire she is wearing ‘blue jeans’. She always said, “I came to Delaware in blue jeans and I am going to leave Delaware in blue jeans”. In Delaware, Pat was employed by the Smyrna School District as a substitute teacher. She also worked in the cafeteria at John R. Downes Elementary School (Newark School District) and was a teacher’s aide at Gauger Middle School (Newark School District). Pat was also employed by the University of Delaware College of Nursing as an office assistant.
Pat was known for her baking skills and donated countless homemade desserts to the Meals on Wheels Program benefiting Delaware seniors and the Emmanuel Dining Room.
Pat provided and passed on to her family important family traditions and life stories. She considered her family her reward in life.
Pat is survived by her children Catherine Colbert, Mark Horney (Gina) and Kurt Horney (Heather Kramer). She is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. (Grandchildren Erin Challburg, Kim Brady, Jake Horney, Megan Adams, Luke Horney, Jessica Tulini, Casey Horney, Amy Horney, and Ben Horney.)
Pat was preceded in death by her infant daughter Theresa Marie Horney, her husband (William Horney), sisters (Rita Hooton and Lelia/Bluebell Loffelman), and son-in-law (Richard Colbert).
Family and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 11:00 am at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church – 454 Bow Street, Elkton, MD. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the Service in the Church Chapel. Burial will be in Gracelawn Memorial Park.
