Judith (Judy) L. Burris, 86, of Bear, DE passed away Saturday, December 17, 2022 in Wilmington, DE surrounded by her loved ones after a long battle with Dementia. Judy is preceded in death by her loving husband, Harvey (Gene) Eugene Burris and her three siblings, Warren Lane, Robert Lane, and Kathleen DiEdoardo. She is survived by her three sons and their spouses, William H. Burris & Michelle Burris of St. George’s, DE, Thomas D. Burris & fiancé Bernadette Stayathome of Wilmington, DE, and Robert E. Burris & Winona Burris of Bear, DE, her ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends, though they are left with cherished memories of holiday celebrations, family dinners, delicious baked goods and cookies, her strong guidance, and her radiant laugh and smile.
Not only did Judy give her love and attention to her family, but she also served her community and received a Tribute from the State of Delaware Senate in November 2016 for “her 37 years as an active member of the Fairwinds Civic Association and more than three decades as its President.” In addition to her service within her community, Judy was also involved in serving as an advisory commission member for the United States Senate in 1983, to which she received a personal invitation from current US President, Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Needless to say, her legacy of commitment to her family, friends, and community will leave a void but also serve as a guide and inspiration for years to come.
There will be a Graveside Service held at Odd Fellows Cemetery – 420 South DuPont Blvd, Smyrna, DE on Thursday, December 22, 2022 at 1:00PM. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the dementia Society of America.
