Jean Trivits, a beloved lifelong resident of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on August 11, 2024, at the age of 91. Born on July 13, 1933, to Elizabeth C. and Leonard (Jerry) Moore, Jean lived a life marked by dedication to her family, community, and career. She was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, Oscar Eugene (Gene) Trivits, and her parents.
A 1951 graduate of Newark High School, Jean dedicated over four decades to the University of Delaware, serving as an Administrative Assistant to the Dean in the College of Education. Her commitment to her work and her colleagues was evident in every aspect of her professional life.
Jean’s passion for community service was reflected in her many volunteer activities. In the 1960s, she became deeply involved in the Girl Scout Program and later as a leader when her daughters joined. Her dedication to the Newark Senior Center was also notable, especially her contributions to the Meals on Wheels program. A committed member of the Newark New Century Club for 25 years, Jean played an active role in the Newark Historical Society, where she was a charter member and served as membership chairperson during its formative years.
Outside of her volunteer work, Jean was a member of the Newark Country Club and an avid golfer, enjoying many rounds on the course with friends and family.
Jean is survived by her two daughters, Connie Trivits of Townsend, DE, and Terry Morrow of Red Bank, NJ. Her legacy of kindness, service, and dedication will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects during a visitation on Thursday, September 5, 2024, from 4-6 p.m. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 6 p.m. at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE. A private burial will take place at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
