Elva K. Carr, 85, of Conowingo, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born on September 18, 1939, in Conowingo, MD, she was the cherished daughter of the late Arthur H. Hilton and Joanna B. (Rowland) Barton and the devoted wife of the late Ralph W. Carr, Jr.
Elva worked for many years at Beta Shoe Company before retiring. After her retirement, she followed her entrepreneurial spirit and started a successful cleaning business in Cecil County. A woman of many talents, Elva had a true love for gardening, often filling her home with beautiful flowers and creating stunning arrangements. She was also known for her culinary skills, particularly her homemade biscuits and sausage gravy, which were always a hit with family and friends. In her free time, Elva enjoyed shopping and spending time with those she loved most. However, her greatest joy was being with her family, especially her grandchildren, whom she adored deeply.
Elva’s warmth, kindness, and love will be profoundly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her son, James Carr; seven grandchildren: Cindy Flynn, Rachel Carr, Jennifer Hurst and her husband, Denny, Justin Carr, Steven Carr and his fiancé Audrey, Amber Mitchell and her husband, DJ, and Chelsia Carr-Copenhaver and her husband, Scott; eight great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her brother, Jim Hilton; sister, Grace Comer; and sister-in-law, Anna Carr.
Elva was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph W. Carr, Jr.; and three sons, Ricky Carr, Danny Carr, and William Carr.
A celebration of Elva’s life will be held on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 12:00 PM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911, where family and friends may gather beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery in Peach Bottom, PA.
Elva’s legacy of love, kindness, and devotion to her family will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.
