Ella N. Luff (93) of Chesapeake City, MD, passed away on September 28, 2023. She was born on April 25, 1930, in Elkdale, PA, the cherished daughter of the late Ernest and Ella (nee, Crowl) Nieweg, and the wife of the late Albert Luff.
Above all, Ella was an exceptional and loving mother to her six children, a role that defined her as a nurturing and caring presence in their lives. Ella’s life was marked by a rich tapestry of talents, roles, and unwavering devotion to her family and community. She began her career as a talented beautician, sharing her skills with others before embarking on a fulfilling journey as a Kindergarten Teacher’s Aide with the Cecil County Schools. Through her work, she touched the lives of countless children, leaving an indelible mark of kindness and knowledge.
Ella’s strong faith was evident through her long-standing and active membership in Trinity Methodist Church, where she served on various committees. Her artistic talents extended to needlework and Floral Arranging. Ella was a generational quilter, weaving family history into every stitch, and she took delight in crafting baby blankets for new arrivals. Her passion for flower arranging allowed her to provide beautiful arrangements for her church services and special occasions for over 50 years. Ella was also a founding member of the Chesapeake City Ecumenical Association, a testament to her commitment to community and faith. Ella’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, and her legacy of faith, love, and creativity will continue to inspire us all.
Ella is survived by her 3 sons: Brad Luff of Elkton, MD, Doug Luff and wife Connie of Cairo, VA, Matthew Luff and wife Sheri of Fairhill, MD; 3 daughters: Carol Luff of Chesapeake City, MD, Kathy Vaughan and husband Dale of Chesapeake City, MD, Nancy Nickerson and husband Jeff of Elkton, MD; 14 grandchildren: Amanda Lauritsen, Alicia Luff, Alexander Luff, Daniel Luff, Kimberly Perkins, Eric Luff, Brian Luff, Sean Seither, Andrew Seither, William Vaughan, Joseph Nickerson, Marissa Nickerson, Samuel Nickerson, Matthew Nickerson; and 9 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ella is preceded in death by 2 grandchildren: Joshua Luff and Timothy Nickerson; 2 brothers and 4 sisters.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 2, 2023, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Trinity United Methodist Church – 450 3rd Street, Chesapeake City, MD. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023, at 11:00 AM at Trinity Methodist Church, with a one-hour visitation prior to the service.
