Ella Geraldine “Gerry” Pleasanton, 98, of Quarryville, PA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband Benjamin Pleasanton. Born on May 25, 1926, in Elkton, MD, she was the cherished daughter of the late Jess and Mary (nee Corcoran) Stoops.
Gerry lived a rich and full life, marked by her deep devotion to her family, her hardworking nature, and her vibrant personality. In her early years as a young mother, she embraced the responsibilities of life on a dairy farm, where she balanced the demands of raising children with the daily chores of farm life. Later, she found joy and peace in her garden, cultivating beautiful flowers and plants. She had a particular fondness for butterflies and took great delight in growing flowers that would attract them to her home.
Together with her beloved husband, Gerry embarked on many adventures. The couple traveled extensively throughout the United States, exploring nearly every corner of the country in their RV. Her travels took her to 49 out of 50 states. Her love of travel was matched only by her love of spending time with those closest to her. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Gerry’s family was the center of her world. She treasured every moment with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, offering them not only her love but also her wisdom, humor, and a touch of sass.
A woman of deep faith, Gerry was an active and beloved member of Victory Church and found joy in her connection to the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, where she had many dear friends. She also had a special bond with her cat, Simmie, who was a constant companion and source of comfort.
Gerry’s family will always remember her for her unwavering work ethic, her bold and sassy spirit, and her genuine love for people. She had an infectious personality that brought light to every room she entered. Her legacy of love, kindness, and strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Gerry is survived by her daughters: Donna Sexton (Ralph), Beverly Newman (Michael), and her son, John Clanton III (Shawna); eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Norman Stoops and Howard Stoops as well as a large and extended family that will miss her dearly.
A Celebration of Gerry’s Life will be held on Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at 2:00 PM at the Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community. Burial will be private.
Her family takes comfort in knowing that Gerry’s legacy of love, faith, and resilience will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know her.
