Kenneth Dickerson Campbell, 74, of Elkton, Maryland, passed away peacefully at his home on April 18, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on August 4, 1949, in his beloved Elkton, he was the cherished son of the late James and Janet Campbell (nee, Dickerson). He found his lifelong partner in Reatha D. Campbell (nee, Simmons), to whom he was devoted for 53 years, until the end.
Ken’s journey was one of service and valor, marked by his commitment to his country. As a proud member of the US Army’s 2nd Infantry Division, he served with distinction in Vietnam, rising to the rank of sergeant. He was later deployed to Republic of Korea, where during his tenure, he courageously defended South Korea from potential threats. His bravery and dedication left an indelible mark on all who served alongside him.
Following his honorable discharge, Ken transitioned to civilian life, dedicating himself to his work on the auto assembly line at Chrysler until his well-deserved retirement.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Ken found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Whether navigating the open waters while boating and fishing, feeling the wind in his hair astride his Harley, or demonstrating his skill on the bowling lanes at Cecil Lanes, Ken lived life with passion and zest. A master of Pinochle and possessing a remarkable photographic memory, Ken’s directness and quick wit endeared him to all who had the pleasure of his company.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sons: Kenneth Campbell, Jr., Rodney Campbell, Shane Campbell; brothers: James Campbell, Jr., Roger Campbell and sister, Shonnie Campbell.
Ken’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife, Reatha Campbell; his son, Noah Campbell; his granddaughter, Kourtney Lynn Campbell; and grandson, Samuel J. Stanley; sisters: Alana Powell (Curtis), Cathy Poore; brother, Leonard Poore, Jr. (Ruby) and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
In addition to his immediate family, Ken leaves behind a legacy of courage, strength, and laughter. While we mourn his passing, we celebrate a life well-lived and the countless memories he leaves behind.
A celebration of Ken’s life will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 at 11:00 AM at R. T. Foard Funeral Home – 259 East Main Street, Elkton, Maryland. The family will welcome friends starting at 10:00 AM. Ken will be laid to rest in Gilpin Manor Memorial Park, his final resting place among the peaceful serenity he cherished in life.
