In Memory of Jan Gregory Kubesh (June 30, 1935 – January 23, 2024)
Jan Gregory Kubesh (88) of Rising Sun, Maryland, passed away on January 23, 2024. Born in Minneapolis, MN, on June 30, 1935, to Theodore L. and Della V. Kubesh, he was the devoted husband of 48 years to Heather D. Kubesh.
Jan began his education in Hackensack, MN, graduated from St John’s Prep in St. Cloud, MN and attended St John’s University. Jan enlisted in the US Air Force for pilot training. He flew the F 101 Voodoo fighter jet during his service in Italy, Germany, and the U.S.
After his military service, Jan continued his career at Eastern Air Lines, where he met and married his wife, Heather. Jan continued as a pilot for US Air, settling in Princeton Junction, NJ, until his retirement.
Beyond his professional life, Jan enjoyed fishing, reading, and outdoor activities. He dedicated time to youth development, serving as a Boy Scout leader and engaged in boating and paintball activities with youth. Tubing became a popular activity for Jan, who added an element of thrill to the adventures. His family fondly recalls his talent for telling “tall tales” and his ability to adlib the lyrics to songs on the spot. Jan was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in North East, Maryland. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Jan is Preceded in death by his parents; son, Ben L. Kubesh, and brother, Lawrence J. Kubesh. He is survived by his wife Heather D. Kubesh and children: Jennifer J. Wuellner, Elizabeth R. Randall, Brian G. Kubesh, and Todd M. Kubesh. He is also survived by 14 grandchildren and 2 nieces and 1 nephew.
