Greg Claypool, 75, of Louisville, KY, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24th, 2022.
Born in Portland, Oregon in 1946, his family moved several times early in life. Upon graduation from Sherwood High School near Burtonsville, MD, he joined the US Navy Submarine Service as a sonar technician aboard the USS Nathanael Green, based in Charleston, SC. While in the Navy, he met his first wife, Mary Sager of Chesapeake City, MD, on a New Year’s Eve blind date in 1967 in Washington, DC. They married in January of 1969.
Upon his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Johnson City, TN, where he attended East Tennessee State University. After graduation, they moved to Louisville, KY, where he began a long career with Liberty National Bank and subsequent companies until his retirement. They started a family and became members of Beargrass Christian Church during this time.
Following Mary’s passing, Greg met Nancye Snyder at Beargrass. After marrying in 2016, they spent several years traveling, opened a miniature shop, and were active members of the Louisville Miniature Club.
Greg was a wonderful and beloved husband, father, and friend to all who knew him with a laugh, advice, or a hug at the ready. Greg was a current Woodlawn Park council member, a former Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 115 and a former member of the Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking, miniatures, genealogy and rebuilding cars.
Greg is survived by his wife, Nancye (Snyder) Claypool; his daughter Lynnelle Claypool Morgan (Michael) of Louisville, KY, and son, Devin Claypool (Shannon) of Denver, CO and three granddaughters; step-children Graham Honaker (Sarah) of Indianapolis, IN, Eliot Honaker (Sarah) of Coronado, CA, Greta Koning (Brian) of Northborough, MA, and six step-grandchildren; and his sister, Valerie Rogers of Louisville, KY. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary (Sager) Claypool, and his parents, Wilbur and Dorothy Claypool.
His ashes will be interred in the fall at Bethel Cemetery in Chesapeake City, MD.
In lieu of flowers, his family suggests donations in his memory to Beargrass Christian Church, Boy Scout Troop 115 (both in Louisville, KY), or the National Association of Miniature Enthusiasts.
