Mr. Gerrit Fredrik Stam

October 29, 1937 - August 21, 2022

Gerrit Fredrik Stam, age 84, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away on Sunday, August 21, 2022. He was born in Netherlands on October 29, 1937 to the late Simon Stam and Grietje (Liefhebber) Stam.

In 1965, Gerrit came to the United States and later became a United States Citizens. He worked for Dupont as an Electronic Tech from 1984-2005. Gerrit loved going camping, traveling, and tinkering with computers every chance he got. He was a good husband, father, son, and friend who was known for his sense of humor. Gerrit will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Gerrit is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Alida Stam; two daughters: Alisa (Richard Wanless) Maegerle and Tine Stam; three grandchildren: William Maegerle, Christina Tate, and Sophie Edwards; four great grandchildren; and brother, Jan (Marij) Stam.

In addition to his parents, Gerrit is preceded in death by his two brothers: Simon Stam and Frits Stam.

Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.

Opa Bernie, we will all miss you so much. Thank you for always being there for your family, for telling stories of your life, capturing memories with your camera, always being ready with a joke to make someone laugh. I did not grow up with any grandfathers so thank you for giving me that experience. We will keep your memory alive as we tell stories about you to your great grand children. Rest in peace Opa.

We are so sorry for your loss. Gerrit will be deeply missed. We will miss his conversations of days gone by, his many journeys with Marli in their trailer all over the US, and we will treasure the memories including our visits to Longwood Gardens at Christmas, family events such as the wedding of his grandson, Will, to our daughter, Meaghan, and the birth of our grandsons, his great grandson's, Callen and Wyatt. I will remember his insistence for me (Lenore) to follow him and Marli to witness the Conowingo Dam with full gates open after a rainy season.
