Miskit Airth, 83, died peacefully on March 13, 2024 at Caraway Assisted Living in Elkton, Maryland.
Born in Live Oak, Florida on May 29, 1939, she was the daughter of the late Dorothy Burnette and George Airth; the sister of Alice Airth and the beloved spouse of Jean Anwyll for the past 43 years.
A graduate of Randolph-Macon Women’s College in Lynchburg, VA with a MA Degree in theater from Baylor University in Dallas TX, Miskit spent most of her career as a television producer.
Early in her career she was Producer of the ABC morning show which came to be known as “Good Morning America.” Subsequently she was part of the start-up team of the famed home shopping network, QVC. She followed that experience by leading a team of experts who started up home shopping channels in Germany, Mexico, The UK, South Korea and Australia.
Over the course of her career, she won five Emmy Awards for programming plus numerous medals from the International Film Festival of New York and two awards for outstanding children’s programs from the Communications Excellence for Black Americans.
In retirement she was an active volunteer, along with her spouse, in Cecil County’s Home Delivered Meals Program. She was also an enthusiastic traveler-spending many summers in Bermuda; cruising through the Panama Canal and enjoying a helicopter trip in Aruba. She was also an avid hot air balloonist.
In addition to her beloved spouse and her sister, Alice, she leaves behind her adored dog, Georgie; her cousins Hal and Jan Airth; Adam and Katie Airth and their daughters Abigail and Arminda; Mary and Alan Raycraft and their sons Lloyd and Jareth; and her “adopted” family, Roberta Jackson, her son, Brian, and his wife Jackie.
