Miriam L. ‘Mim’ Crowl, 79, of Port Deposit, MD, passed away at her home January 6, 2012.
Born in Hershey, PA on October 21, 1932, Mim was the youngest of 13 children born to the late John and Mabel Riegel Cassel. At the age of 15, she graduated from Hershey High School in 1948. She was a homemaker for many years and then later in life took on a career as a journalist, starting at the Cecil Democrat, then going to the Cecil Whig and moving to the News Journal. She changed her career again and became personnel officer for the Rodel Company in Newark, DE where she retired in 1997. She travelled extensively throughout North America, Europe, the Mediterranean and Africa. She was an avid reader and self educated woman who lived very independently. She enjoyed antiques and fine collectibles.
She is survived by two sons, Robert L. Crowl, II and Jeffry D. Crowl of Rising Sun; two daughters Lise L. Brown of Rising Sun and Renee L. Crowl of Newark, DE; three sisters, Ethel Good of Palmyra, PA, Polly Hatter of Halifax, PA and Helen Steffen of Hershey, PA and a brother John H. Cassel, Jr. of Nicholasville, KY; four grandchildren, Tricia, Ashley, Robert, III and Rachel; a great grandchild Liam; a son-in-law Barry Brown as well as numerous nieces and nephews who all greatly loved ‘Aunt Mim’.
A service honoring her life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911. Friends and family may call at the funeral home beginning at 12 noon. Burial will be private.
