Milica (Vickovic) Batula
Wilmington, Delaware
November 5, 1950 – November 30, 2023
Milica Batula, 73, of Newark Delaware passed away unexpectedly on November 30,2023.
Born on November 5th, 1950, in Samaricka Draga (Dvor) in former Yugoslavia, she was the oldest daughter to her parents, Mile and Jelica (Jugovic) Vickovic. She finished a school for a tailor in Sisak. Along with her two brothers (Ivan and Josip), and her sister Ljubica (Buba), they worked on the family farm.
She met her husband Nikola in 1973 and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Milica and Nikola had two sons, Aleksandar (1974) and Boris (1975). Milica raised her children in Moscenica until the civil war in former Yugoslavia. After fleeing from their village during Operation Storm, they made their way to Serbia, before coming to United State as refugees in 1998 and settling in Newark, DE. Milica was preceded in death by her husband Nikola Batula, who passed away on September 25, 2023.
Milica was exceptionally proud of her sons and grandkids, and she was the most loving mother-in-law to Jelena. She helped raise her grandkids, Viktor and Tara, from their birth and was remarkably close to them until her last day. When she retired from her job in Newark in 2016, she started spending springs and summers in Grocka, Serbia where she made many friends. Viktor and Tara would join her and Nikola each summer and she cherished her time with them. Nikola and Milica would spend fall and winter months in Newark and she would always stay few days at the time with her son Boris and his wife Jelena and enjoy their lifestyle and their friends and especially her favorite granddaughter. Milica and Tara were best friends and talked each day. Milica moved in with her son Boris and his family (Wilmington) only 11 days before her passing and those days were the happiest here.
She was a loving wife, and mother and the best grandmother. She was a loyal friend to everyone she met. Milica leaves behind her sons Aleksandar (Djurjda) and Boris (Jelena) and her grandkids Luka, Alek, Viktor (who she loved to call “babino pile”) and Tara (who she loved to call “babin cvetic”), her younger brothers Ivan and Josip, her sister Buba and their families, numerous relatives, kumovi and many friends. Milica loved meeting new people, trying new food, and going shopping with Tara.
A visitation will be held from 10:00AM-12:00PM on Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at R.T. Foard and Jones, 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711 followed by interment at Head of Christiana Cemetery in Newark, DE.
