Merrill William Brown, age 82 of Charlestown, MD went home to be with the Lord on February 14, 2012.
A life-long resident of Cecil County, Mr. Brown was born on July 21, 1929 at the family home in Chesapeake City, MD. He was the youngest of three sons, born to the late Agnes M. Brown and the late Norman C. Brown.
Born during the Great Depression, Merrill worked hard as a young boy at the Tatman family General Store. The store was located in Chesapeake City, MD and the manager was his Grandfather, the late Charles P. Tatman. Merrill loved his ‘Papa’ dearly.
Mr. Brown served his country with pride. He was a Lance Corporal and a U.S. Marine veteran of the Korean War. He was awarded the National Defense Service Ribbon. Merrill retired from General Motor’s Corp. after 32 years of service. Mr. Brown loved the water, and he shared many fond memories of fishing, crabbing and oystering. His father Norman was a waterman from the Chestertown, MD area.
Mr. Brown leaves behind to cherish his memory, three sons, William, Mark and Robert Brown; one precious daughter, Cynthia Brown, who was his loving caregiver; five grandchildren, one great grandchild and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Merrill’s beloved wife of 54 years of marriage, Zilla Jane Brown, departed this life for Heaven on Sept. 16, 2008; also preceding him, his two brother’s Norman and Francis Brown.
