Merita A. McMillan, age 40, of Rising Sun, MD passed away on Sunday, February 12, 2012.

Merita was born in Havre de Grace, MD on April 20, 1971. She enjoyed photography of nature, horse back riding, traveling and going to the beach.

She is survived by her husband, Jesse J. McMillan of Rising Sun, MD; son, Nathaniel Garland of Rising Sun, MD; daughter, Samantha Garland of Rising Sun, MD; sister, Julie Walker of Port Deposit, MD; brother, Gerald Smith, Jr. of Topeka, KS; father, Gerald Smith, Sr. of 29 Palms, CA; step grandchildren, Jeremy and Jason Brooks of Rising Sun, MD; nephew, Jason Barton of Rising Sun, MD and nieces, Ellie, Laura and Julia Smith of Topeka, KS.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joan (McGee) Smith.

A visitation will be held from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., Rising Sun, MD. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at St. Agnes Roman Catholic Church, 150 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD. Burial will follow at Friends Cemetery in Calvert, MD. I am terribly saddened by this news. Merita was a wonderful, giving, funny, and honest friend of mine. I will truly miss her.

I offer my most sincere condolences to the family and friends of Merita McMillan. When one so young dies, one truly appreciates the value of all life. Yet we are also reminded how fragile life truly is. Our Heavenly Father knows the sting that death causes and wishes no one has to experience it. In the Bible death is called an enemy and soon He will vanquish all of His enemies including death. No more will one have to worry being robbed of a good life with unfulfilled hopes, because we will live forever on a Paradise earth. At that time tears of sadness will be replaced by tears of gladness and immense joy. We will be reunited with our dead loved ones as they are brought back to life. Wow! I am in shock and can't even begin 2 explain the emotions I am feeling right now! I'm angry 4 Merita being taken away...i'm angry that i didn't spend more time with her....i'm sad because my son will never get 2 know the 1 woman who loved him just becuz he was a part of me! She was such a generous n loving soul, a soul who would give u the clothes off her back if she thought u needed them! Theres not enough time in a day or even week 2 point out all of her wonderful qualities! Merita, i know ur gonna watch over me n liam...so i want u 2 know that i am not attending ur funeral! How do you begin to explain the sorrow in hearing of the passing of a friend. May she rest in peace and have no more pain. God rest her soul and keep a loving watchful eye over her family.

My heart is so saddened since I found out this morning. I just talked to her the other day and we had made some plans. I know that she is finally out of pain which I'm glad for that but the selfish part of me wants more time even if small I would take it. Merita was a great person, a special lady & a wonderful friend. Thankyou for the memories and never being too busy. You will always be a dear friend to me. I love you. My prayers are with her family and other friends. RIP

I am sorry for your loss. I have fond memories growing up next door to Merita. I'll never forget the time my dog bit her when she tried taking away his food.

I am so saddened by the news of Merita's passing. We barely knew each other in high school but we had re-connected via Facebook in 2010. My condolences to her family, especially her children.
