Maxine Meredith Purfield, age 79, of Earleville, MD, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. She was born in Philadelphia, PA on June 22, 1943 to the late Michael and Josephine (Nastasi) Stevens.

Maxine worked for Pilgrim Life Insurance Company for twenty years before retiring. Her family was her biggest passion, along with her dog, Mickey. Maxine took great joy traveling in and out of the country and seeing new things. She loved spending time at home and especially loved time spent with her grandchildren. Maxine will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maxine is survived by her husband of 60 years, Lawrence W. Purfield, Jr.; two sons: Lawrence (Jean) W. Purfield, III and Matthew (Lara) Purfield, Sr.; seven grandchildren: Jeffrey Purfield, Brooke (Stephen) Metra, Crystal Purfield, Matthew Purfield, Jr., Dillon Purfield, James Franks, and Ty Franks; six great-grandchildren: Bentley Purfield, London Purfield, Blake Metra, Holly Metra, Chase Metra, and Leonora Franks; and two brothers: Michael Stevens and William Stevens.

In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her son, Leonard Purfield.

A celebration of Maxine’s life will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, March 23, 2023 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 318 George Street, Chesapeake City, MD 21915 where family and friends may begin visiting at 11:00AM. Burial will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “St. Jude’s Childrens Research” and send in care of the funeral home, P.O. Box 248, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
