Matthew H. Lunsford, (Harry) age 84 of Rising Sun, MD passed away on August 14, 2018. He was born on March 23, 1934 in Slagle, WV to the late Matthew H. Lunsford and Ruby Faye (Price) Russell.
Harry grew up on a farm and continued the trade with his wife, Virginia and their twelve children. The family had a small farm in Rising Sun, MD where they milked cows and tended to other small animals. Harry worked for Chrysler as an Auto Assembler and retired after 37 years. He was an active member of Gospel Lighthouse Church where he enjoyed singing gospel music for the church members. He was also a talented wood worker and was skilled at making cabinets and other wooden furniture. On a warm and sunny day, you could find Harry sitting on his porch swinging and enjoying the day.
Harry is survived by his children: Donna Lunsford of Conowingo, MD, Linda Johnson and her husband, Bill of North East, MD, Greg Lunsford of Conowingo, MD, Larry Lunsford and his wife, Diane of Rising Sun, MD, Cathy Greer of Elkton, MD, Bernie Lunsford and his wife, Theresa of Rising Sun, MD, Duane Lunsford of Rising Sun, MD, Craig Lunsford and his wife, Brandy of Nottingham, PA, Tony Lunsford of Conowingo, MD, and Derick Lunsford of Rising Sun, MD; brothers: Fred Peyton and Bill Peyton; sister, Malinda Taylor; 21 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Maynard) Lunsford; sons: Bob Lunsford and Danny Lunsford; and grandson, Michael Mitchell.
A celebration of Harry’s life will be held on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at 11am at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. Family and friends may attend the visitation beginning at 10am. Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery.
