Maryann Theresa McIlhatton, age 78, of Elkton, MD, passed away peacefully with her husband, Bill, by her side on Sunday, July 5, 2026. She was born on March 29, 1948, in Philadelphia, PA, to the late John Stanley Spurka and Theresa (Straksis) Spurka.
Maryann was a woman whose warmth, kindness, and unmistakable personality touched the lives of everyone who knew her. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures and had a remarkable way of making every place feel like home. One of Maryann’s favorite pastimes was taking walks around the neighborhood with her close-knit group of friends, sharing laughter and conversation along the way. Friday nights were reserved for card games, where her favorite game, Hand and Foot, brought together family and friends for countless cherished memories.
Maryann had a true gift in the kitchen. She loved to cook and was known for preparing delicious meals that brought everyone together around the table. Her home reflected her creative spirit, beautifully decorated not only for every holiday but throughout the year, making every season feel special. She also enjoyed relaxing with her favorite television shows, rarely missing an episode on HGTV or TLC. Whether she was admiring home makeovers or following family stories, these shows were among her favorite ways to unwind.
Above all, Maryann treasured time with her family. She eagerly looked forward to family vacations, especially the many memorable trips to the Poconos. Those moments together created memories that will be cherished for generations. Maryann’s faith was a guiding force throughout her life. She was a devoted member of Wesleyan Methodist Church in Elkton, Maryland, where she found not only a place of worship but a loving church family that meant so much to her. Perhaps what those who knew Maryann will remember most are her unforgettable “Maryann-isms”, the unique sayings, expressions, and bits of wisdom that could make people laugh, smile, or simply shake their heads with affection. They were uniquely hers and will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her.
