Mary Irene Slaughter Tuke of Newark, Delaware passed away on December 20th, 2018 at the age of 71, surrounded by her family. Mary was born in Wilmington, Delaware on October 15th, 1947 to Robert Slaughter and Regina Quill, the oldest of three siblings who predeceased her, Robert Slaughter Jr. and Susan Slaughter.
Mary attended the Tatnall School, graduating in 1965. As a teenager, she was actively involved in politics and volunteered for the campaign to elect John F. Kennedy. She went on to pursue her degree in history at the University of Delaware and worked for the legal department of DuPont for 46 years. She married Nicholas John Tuke Sr. in 1982 and had two children. They were married for 22 years until his passing in 2004. She was a loving mother, wife, and friend; an avid epicure; an aficionado of the arts (particularly music); a conflicted yet enthusiastic supporter of both Philadelphia and New York sports teams; and in all things, a sharp wit. Mary is survived by her son, Nicholas John Tuke Jr., her daughter, Nora Susan Frank (née Tuke), and her son-in-law, Zachary Richard Frank.
A graveside service will be held at the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware on Friday, January 4th, 2019 at eleven o’clock in the morning.
