

Mary S. Murphy, age 94 passed away on Friday, February 21, 2020. Mary was the daughter of the late Constantine “Gus” Sclavos and Agnes Skillman Sclavos. Mary was a 1941 graduate of Elkton High School. Mary received her nursing degree at the University of Maryland. She worked as an OR nurse at John’s Hopkins Hospital; worked as an RN at Union Hospital and as a public health nurse. She was the former co-owner and operator of the Glasgow Arms Restaurant in Newark, Delaware with her brother, a business that was started by their father. Mary was an accomplished artist who studied under Frank Schoonover. She was also an accomplished pianist and a talented sculptress. Mary is survived by a nephew and several nieces and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert D. Murphy and brother, John A. Sclavos. Services will be held at Veteran’s Cemetery chapel in Glasgow Delaware on Monday, March 2nd at 11am.
