Obituary for Mary Kay Mills, submitted by her husband, Corey Bowen.
Ms. Mary Kay Mills, aged 62, of Elkton MD, passed away on September 2nd, at home and surrounded by family.
Ms. Mills was born in Wilmington in February of 1960. She was predeceased her parents, John and Patricia Mills, who were both long time educators in Delaware public schools. She Graduated from Dickinson High School in 1978, then from The University of Delaware in 1982. Then, In 1991, Ms. Mills graduated from Towson State University with a master’s degree in Speech and Language Pathology. After spending six years as a Speech Pathologist at Crozer-Chester Hospital, she spent 20 years teaching communication and social skills to students in the Delaware Autism Program.
A lover of the natural world, Mary Kay volunteered at the Tri-state Bird Rescue and was an avid beekeeper, gardener and dog parent. She was also a wonderful wife, mother, stepmother, mother-in-law and grandmother.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Corey Bowen; her brother Jay Mills and niece Laura Mills-Smith of Canton NY and husband Brad Smith; her son Travis Whiteside and partner Angel Jernoski; stepchildren, Nate Bowen and wife Rebecca Bowen; Justin Bowen and wife Gabrielle ——; Rebecca Lee Bowen and husband Teddy Ware; grandchildren, Ayva Wiseman, Benjamin Bowen, Aaron Bowen, Mason Ware and Parker Bowen, all of Cecil County.
A memorial service will be held from 12:00 to 2:30 on Friday October 4th, 2020 at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Mill Creek at 579 Polly Drummond Hill Road, Newark, Delaware.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tri-State Bird Rescue,
