Mary Louise Laws, age 93 of Bear, DE passed away on Friday, June 3, 2016. She was born on September 17, 1922 in Newark, DE to the late Ralph Raymond, Sr. and Beulah (Eastburn) Lewis.
Mary attended Goldey-Beacom College and went on to become an executive secretary at the Refinery in Delaware City. She was a member of the Moose Lodge. Animals of all nature had a special place in Mary’s heart, but she especially loved her cats. She enjoyed tending to her flower garden and admiring beautiful hummingbirds.
Mary is survived by her sons, John Laws, Sr. and his wife, Brenda of Bear, DE, and Raymond Laws, Jr. and his wife, Betty of Bear, DE; daughters, Patricia Emerson of Newark, DE, Joyce Sturdavant and her husband, Michael, of King George, VA, and Ruth Hess of Newark, DE; nine grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband of sixty-three years, Raymond Laws, Sr.; brothers, Charles R. Lewis, Irving Lewis, and Raymond Lewis, Jr.; sister, Ruth Miller; and two grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the staff of Laurelwood Nursing Home, especially Jakki and Carli, for their care and support of their mother.
A Celebration of Mary’s life was held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 11:00AM at R.T. Foard & Jones Funeral Directors and Crematory, 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. A visitation began at 10:00AM where family and friends were welcomed. Burial followed the service at St. George’s Cemetery, in St. George’s, DE.
