Mary Lou Komara, age 92, of Newark, DE, passed away on Wednesday, July 22, 2026 in Fairfax, VA after a brief illness. She was born on September 28, 1933 in Mount Carmel, PA to the late Robert Malick and Mary Margaret Thomaszewski Malick. Mary Lou graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 1951 and later worked for the Merck pharmaceutical company at its Cherokee site in Danville, PA. She married Daniel W. Komara in 1956. The couple relocated to Cleveland, OH before returning to Pennsylvania and then settling in Newark, DE in 1967.

Mary Lou dedicated many years to serving others through her work. She was an administrative assistant at the University of Delaware in the Department of Linguistics from 1988 to 1991. She continued her career as an administrative assistant with International Consultants of Delaware (ICD) formerly located on Barksdale Rd. in Newark, DE, where she worked from 1991 until her retirement in 2007. She was known for her strong work ethic, reliability, and warm presence.

Mary Lou was a faithful member of St. John-Holy Angels parish since 1967, and she embraced her Catholic faith throughout her life. Her relationship with God guided her daily actions, and she found strength, comfort, and purpose in her faith. She lived as an example of Christian compassion, generosity, and love.

In her free time, Mary Lou found joy in simple pleasures. She loved doing plastic canvas crewel work, completing word searches, and walking at Paper Mill Park or Delcastle Recreational Park. She made countless ornaments and other crafts. Mary Lou loved to cheer on the Notre Dame football team and rarely missed watching a game. She was also dedicated to the protection of endangered wildlife.

Mary Lou’s greatest happiness came from spending time with her family. She treasured every moment shared with her loved ones and took great pride in supporting and encouraging them throughout their lives. Her life was defined by faith, dedication, and love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered.

Mary Lou is survived by her two sons, Daniel D. Komara of Newark, DE and Stephen P. Komara of Fairfax, VA. In addition to her parents, Mary Lou was preceded in death by her two sisters, Eleanor O’Brien and Doris Wagner.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at 12:00PM at Holy Angels Church, 82 Possum Park Road, Newark, DE 19711, where friends and family may begin visiting at 11:00AM. A burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery.
