Gene and family, I’m so very sorry for your loss. I first met Gene and Mary at Taylor’s Marina some 40 yrs ago. Mary always had a smile and such a sweet disposition. Later in years our paths would cross at Baker’s Restaurant and then in the pass few years we would run into each other in Middletown. By then Mary would smile, but didn’t recognize me. You took great care of her. She was one lucky lady to have found you.

Such a special woman...may we all have learned from, cherish and pass on Mary's joy and kindness. Back in 2012 Mary became such a gem in Mrs. G's circle. She would come each morning and sit with Mrs G. and bring her homemade oatmeal with raisins , ooh and that peach ice-cream that she and you,Gene would make, yum, she was always sure to bring and share that as well. When Jack and Dot moved to PA/ The Masonic Village , I was fortunate enough to take both Mrs. G. and Mary on a road trip for the day to visit them. I will cherish that day forever...such a good day!!! On the way home we stopped at Applebees for dinner and Mary introduced me to a chicken strip and macaroni dish that she enjoyed, likewise I will always think of Mary and you on Friday Mac n cheese nite at Bakers as they introduced that to me as well. Mary touched my heart as she did all that met her, her kindness was so sincere...she will be missed. Gene, you have that Keeley kindness, thanks for being you! May you feel all the heartfelt care , love and peace that I'm sending your way. Thanks for sharing Mary with us ... she will be missed.

Mary I us first met right after I graduated from College and took a job with DuPont in downtown Wilmington. Betty and I arrived in June of 1967 and soon after I met Mary in the computer facility at the DuPont Engineering Development Lab. We quickly became very good friends and we spent several trips on their boat making trips to Veazey’s Cove. We even watched young Gene wrestle in High School. Mary and I worked together for a couple years and in 1979 I was transferred to another site. We continued to keep in touch, go out to eat, etc. but we slowly saw less and less of them. We soon bought our own boat and met the Sawdon’s at a party, and obtained a slip next to them in Bohemia Vista. Vaughan said to us one summer evening, “let’s go over to Hollywood Beach and play Bingo”. So while we were walking down Hollywood Beach Rd toward the beach there was Mary and Gene working in Aunt Retta’s yard. Our friendship immediately re-kindled and has never stopped. It broke my heart when Mary began to forget things, but she seemed to remember us a little longer than others. Probably because we had known each other for approximately 54 years. We will miss her terribly as will all of Hollywood Beach! She holds a special place in our hearts! Love You, Mike & Betty
