Mary Elaine “Sis” Szarka (81) of Conowingo, MD, went home to be with The Lord on Thursday, April 14, 2022. Born in Havre de Grace, Md on October 21, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John M. and Mary (nee, Walker) Maloy and the loving wife of 61 years to Jack Szarka.

Mary was first and foremost a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed nothing more than big family dinners and eating out with her husband. Her family remembers her keen fashion sense and how she always impeccably dressed for every occasion. Mary loved Classic Rock Music, especially “The King” Elvis Presley and the British Rock Band, Queen. She was also known for her fondness of Pink Flamingos, something she acquired after visiting a Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Florida. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Mary is survived by her devoted husband, Jack Szarka; 4 children: Jack Szarka Jr. (Janet), Christine Reitz (Jerry), Adele Burkhardt (John) and Leslie Szarka; 9 grandchildren: John Szarka III, Danny Szarka, Steven Szarka, Tommy Morris, Karen Betts, Jairamy Williams, Jessica Smith, Gillian Williams and Harrison Williams; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Dee Hipkins (Walter) and brother-in-law, Bruce Andrews (Christy).

The family will begin receiving friends on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 from 10am-12pm at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911. A celebration of Mary’s life will begin at 12pm. Burial to follow at Hopewell Methodist Cemetery.
