There are people in your life that make a difference. Sometimes, when we are young, we don't see them there, but it is their generosity and compassion that makes a difference. Mary was that thoughtful someone. It was who she was. I will always remember that she took me in and treated me as one of her own children at a time when my world was crashing all around me. At the time I didn't know that I was to be uprooted from my home, my friends, my school and for awhile my parents or if my father was going to live or die. I still remember the red winter coat she took me to buy in Kovetts. She saw to it I had winter clothes, she enrolled me in her school district, she packed my lunches, made sure my homework was done, took me to church as part of her family and gave me a home at a vulnerable time in a child's development. She made my life as normal as possible under difficult circumstances. All these years, although I have never spoken about it before, I have not forgotten what she did for me. It was just the way she was: generous of herself, sensing someone's needs and stepping forward to help. You are a good woman Mary Elizabeth McNeal Charnock. Your life made a profound impact on everyone you touched in ways you will never know.

Sending my deepest sympathy to the family. My memory was at our Holiday tea where I enjoyed talking to Ms Mary, who spoke highly of her wonderful daugher, Mrs. Sally. You all are in my prayers and my mother send her best to you, Ms. Sally. I am here for you, Juanita
