Mary Ann Schaaf, 61, of Wilmington, DE, passed away May 24, 2014 at Christiana Hospital with her sons by her side.
Born in Suffolk County, NY on November 11, 1952, Mary was the beloved daughter of Ann Schaaf. She enjoyed her dream job as a hair stylist and cosmetologist, as well as cooking, decorating, and gardening. Relaxing by the water, kayaking, and rollerblading were among her favorite pastimes with family and friends. Her tender heart cared for all animals, especially family pets. Her devotion as a loving mother and grandmother was beyond compare, and by far her proudest accomplishment.
Mary is survived by her two sons, Brian Valetutti and his wife Katie of Elkton, MD, and Chris Ralis and his wife Amy of Ewing, NJ. Mary has four grandchildren, Leah, Emily, and Annie Valetutti, and Charlie Ralis. She also leaves behind her sister and best friend, Barbara Baumiller, and her childhood friend, Doreen Heller.
A service honoring her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday May 30, 2014 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 East Main St., Elkton, MD 21921 with a visitation beginning at 2:00. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

I worked with Mary for several years, we became friends. I loved her positive outlook, never loosing hope. She was a true inspiration to me when my Mom became ill with cancer, she supported me. Mary was a coworker, and on my team at Bank of America, but most of all she was a very good friend for many years. She was a kind, gentle, caring woman. She would cut my hair for me in her home, where she often expressed her love for her sons and especially her grandchildren. And she shared funny stories and some sad ones too. I tried to be there for her in her time of need. I know she wanted to live. I hated that she suffered. She cared for me as well. I hope the family has support of friends and other family members and finds comfort in knowing that others care. I will truly miss her.
