Martin Carl Poore, 83, of Newark, Delaware, passed away peacefully on February 12, 2026. Born in Wilmington, Delaware on December 11, 1942, he was the beloved son of the late Martin Golden Poore and Grace (née Kane) Poore, and the devoted husband of 38 years to Delo (née Dennis) Poore.
Martin proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a Signalman, a role that reflected his discipline, attentiveness, and strong sense of duty. Following his honorable service, he worked briefly for AMTRAK before beginning a long and dedicated career with Chrysler, where he was employed on the assembly line as an auto worker until his early retirement. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family.
Outside of his career, Martin had a lifelong passion for horses and the thrill of the racetrack. He owned racehorses and worked as a trainer’s assistant, finding joy in the early mornings at the stables and the excitement of race day. His love of the sport brought him lasting friendships and many cherished memories.
Martin was also a devoted member of the Associated Bible Students, Wilmington/Chesapeake City Ecclesia, where he formerly served as a deacon. Deeply studious in his faith, he was known for his thoughtful insights, gentle spirit, and thirst for knowledge and understanding. Those who knew Martin appreciated his warm heart, steady presence, and fun-loving nature. He had a way of making others feel welcome and valued, and he will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In addition to his parents, Martin was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Poore.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Delo Poore; his daughter, Kimberly Schettig and her husband, Albert; his stepchildren, Shawn Carman and his wife, Dawn, and Sherry Baines and her husband, DeWayne; his grandchildren, Tyler Schettig and his companion, Mia, and Logan Schettig and his wife, Alaina; his step-grandchildren, Tyrone Baines, Malik Baines, Joseph Carman, Roxy Carman, and Robert Carman; two step-great-grandchildren; and his sister, Patricia Reynolds and her husband, Carroll. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will carry his memory in their hearts.
A family-directed memorial service will be held at a later date.
