Martha Lucille Gentry (86) of Aberdeen, Maryland, peacefully went to be with her Lord and Savior on Sunday, May 17, 2026, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family.
Born in Mountain City, Tennessee, Martha was the daughter of the late Abner Lloyd Woods and Mary Idell Woods. She grew up in the mountains of East Tennessee before building a life and family in Maryland, where she spent many cherished years.
Martha took great pride in creating a warm and welcoming home. She was an avid gardener whose beautiful flower beds brought joy to all who saw them. She had a simple but heartfelt love for vanilla ice cream cups, which she enjoyed often, and she found deep comfort and inspiration in gospel music. A faithful and longtime member of Porter’s Grove Baptist Church, Martha lived a life centered on her unwavering Christian faith and her devoted family. Known for her sweet, kind, and gentle spirit, she treated everyone she met with warmth and respect.
Even in her final days, Martha’s faith shone brightly. When asked how she was doing, she would smile and reply, “I’m just relaxing,” often following it with a tender “I love you.” Now she’s relaxing with Jesus. Her quiet strength, joyful outlook, and loving words left a lasting impression on everyone around her.
In addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Cecil Clarence Gentry; her children, Jimmy Woods and Betty Ann Sprouse; her granddaughter, Mindy; and her siblings, Walter Woods, Samuel Woods, Jett Woods, Charlie Woods, Henry Woods, Sue Ward, Betty Woods, and Jim Woods.
She is survived by her children: Garry (Sherry) Gentry, Tom (Debbie) Gentry, Bonnie (Robert) Schmidt, and Kathryn (James) Taylor; her grandchildren: Christal, Mary, Becky, Garry Jr., Christina, Robert, Connie, Stephanie, Roseanna, Anthony, Ryan, Bethany, Joey, and Brianna; her step-grandchildren: Anthony, Shawn, and Brandy; and her siblings: Truman Woods and Georgia Ott. She will be deeply missed by her many loving family members and friends whose lives she touched with her kindness and gentle faith.
A funeral service to celebrate Martha’s life will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Porter’s Grove Baptist Church, 475 Connelly Road, Rising Sun, MD. Burial will follow at Nottingham Missionary Baptist Cemetery in Nottingham, Pennsylvania.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Martha’s memory to Porter’s Grove Baptist Church. Rest in peace, dear Martha. Your faith has made you whole, and your love will live on in the hearts of all who knew you.
