Marjory “Betty” Frazier, 85, of Rising Sun, MD passed away quickly and peacefully at home on Friday, June 21, 2013, after having suffered a stroke the day before.
Betty was born on February 12, 1928, in Bainbridge, MD to the late Emma Ropka Steinhilber and Robert Bernard Steinhilber. She graduated from the Jacob Tome Institute in Port Deposit, MD in 1945. She worked as a secretary, first at the VA in Perryville, MD, and finally retiring as an executive secretary at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. Betty and William Frazier, Jr. were wed on June 4, 1953, and had four children. Her volunteering and support of her children’s educational activities were honored with a lifetime membership in the PTA. She loved the Lord and was a lifelong member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
A talented artist, while raising a large family and working, she focused on more practical uses of those talents and sewed beautiful clothes for her family, crocheted, and made wonderful decorated Easter candies. She was a painter in both oils and watercolors and after she retired, Betty attended the Schuler School of Fine Arts, in Baltimore, MD. She taught oil painting lessons locally for 20 years, was a juried member of the Baltimore Watercolor Society, and was represented by a gallery in St. Michaels, MD for many years. She loved music, could sing and play piano, and enjoyed reading mysteries and doing crossword puzzles. After Betty and William retired, they discovered the beauty of the “Northeast Kingdom of Vermont” and designed, modeled, and built their own log house to enjoy the summers there.
Betty is survived by her sons, William Frazier, of St. Louis, MO, Robert Frazier, of Bel Air, MD, Mark Crankshaw of St. Louis, MO, and a daughter, Marla Frazier, of Rising Sun, MD, 6 grandchildren, and 2 (possibly 3 as of the publishing of this article!) great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband William in 2008, her only sibling, Richard Lee Steinhilber, in January of this year, and a step-daughter, Sheryl Frazier in 2003.
A graveside service is being held at the Asbury Church Cemetery in Port Deposit, MD, on Thursday, June 27. In lieu of flowers, Betty would have been most appreciative of a donation to support the work of her favorite charity. Checks may be made payable to the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) and mailed to R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD 21911.
