
































Marjorie J. “Margie” Bennett, 91, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2016. Born on January 10, 1925 in Wilmington, DE, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Bertha (Grawl) Jamison.
Margie is survived by sons: David S. Bennett and his wife, Phresedes, Gary P. Bennett and his wife, Jane, and Mark A. Bennett and his wife, Lisa; daughter, Marla J. Carter and her husband, David; grandchildren: Stephen Gazdick and wife, Carly, Megan Winokur and husband, Evan, Kristen Gazdick, Kaitlin Gazdick, Adam Bennett, Evan Bennett, Aubrey Bennett, and Emily Bennett; and great-grandson, Hunter Gazdick.
In addition to her parents, Margie is preceded in death by her husband, C. Stewart Bennett, daughter, Pamela Jean Bennett, and sister, Beatrice Walls.
Margie, as she was known, grew up on Kirkwood Highway when it was still a dirt road. She was a graduate of Newark High School and the University of Delaware, where she received her bachelor’s degree in three years. It was during wartime and teachers were needed. She spent most of her career teaching first grade at Gallaher Elementary in Newark.
Her favorite pastimes were reading, painting and traveling with her husband Stewart. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and her kitty cats.
A celebration of Margie’s life will be held at 11am on October 26, 2016 at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main Street, Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10am. Burial will follow the service at White Clay Creek Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to “Faithful Friends” and sent in care to the funeral home.
