Mrs. Marilyn F. McCommons, 74, of Lillington, formerly of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at the Wake Hospice Center in Raleigh, NC. Marilyn was born on November 25, 1938 in Tacoma Washington.
Marilyn was very artistic and known for reaching out to help others in need and had a love for animals. She raised her family as an Air Force wife at her husband’s many duty stations. She often took on additional humanitarian works at those locations such as when she was recreation director at the New Jersey Masonic home.
She is survived by her husband, Harry Perry “Mac” McCommons of Lillington, NC; daughter, Debra J. McCommons of Virginia Beach, VA; son, Christopher J. McCommons of Southern Pines, NC; sister, Judy Knutsen of Aberdeen, WA; and brothers, Corey Knutsen of Bellevue, WA and Scott O’Neal of Des Moines, WA; and grandchildren, Zachary and Noah McCommons-Martin.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her son, Perry Douglas McCommons.
The family will receive friends Sunday, January 13, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home, Fayetteville, NC. Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Fayetteville, NC. There will also be a local service held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 259 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow in Cherry Hill Methodist Cemetery in Elkton, MD.
