Marie Elena Ragan, 73, of Rising Sun, MD, passed away September 24, 2014 at Christiana Hospital following a brief illness.
Born in Lancaster County, PA on June 1, 1941, Marie was the daughter of the late Veryl Raymond and Ella Mae Duff Barr. She was a graduate of Solanco High School and recently retired from Delaware Cadillac where she worked as an administrative assistant. She loved people and enjoyed talking to everyone. She was a Jeff Gordon NASCAR fan. She enjoyed shopping and cheering for the Baltimore Orioles. She most enjoyed taking walks hand in hand with her husband.
She was a devout Catholic, a member of Good Shepherd Parish and worshipped at St. Agnes Catholic Church. Above all, Marie was a compassionate person who dearly loved her family and always put them first.
She’s survived by her husband of 54 years, Kenneth Laurence (Larry) Ragan, of Rising Sun, MD; son Richard T. Ragan, his wife Pam of Conowingo, MD; daughter Robin D. Waddell, her husband Keith of Rising Sun, MD; grandchildren, Michael, his wife Kristelle, John, and Jeffery; great grandchildren Quin and Arlo; brothers, Raymond V. Barr, of Peach Bottom, PA and William E. Overly of Quarryville, PA. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Henry Overly, Sherman Overly, and Chester Barr.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Rising Sun, MD on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 11:00AM with a visitation at the church beginning at 10:00AM. Burial will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association and mailed to R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen St., Rising Sun, MD 21911.

Dear Family, I missed many years of knowing Marie because of living a long distance away and not having been close as children, but am so thankful for our recent "cousin" reunions that have allowed us to "catch up" and get to know each other again. Mom & Dad (Uncle Tommy & Aunt Ruth) always spoke highly of Marie, and she was so faithful to keep in touch and visit them. Marie was a breath of fresh air for me to see and talk to. She would tell me stories about my grandmother(her aunt) because I really don't remember her because she died when I was young. Marie always had the kindest smile and the hugest heart of anyone I have ever met. I was not ready to have her leave this earth because she brought such joy and love to me. I believe that god puts angels on earth and I believe she was one of them. There is nobody more compassionate and caring than that women. I love you Marie and will always, always cherish our time we had together. Until we meet again at those gates of heaven, rest in peace. And to her family that she loved and always talked about. You made her so happy and she was proud of you all. She shared with me a lot about everyone and even though we may have never met, I feel I know you through all laughs and stories that she loved tell about. You all are very lucky to have had one of the greatest women that god created in your life.
