Maria Theresa Phillips, age 77 of Elkton, MD passed away on February 12, 2024. She was born on September 10, 1946 in Wilmington, DE to the late John A. Purcell and Maria Theresa (Quigley) Purcell.

Maria was very proud of her Irish and Scottish heritage and traveled to many countries with her family including: Ireland, Scottland, and many other European countries. She was an avid reader and always had a book nearby. Maria was an animal lover and had a huge heart for cats. She enjoyed travelling to the beach and loved to watch her favorite tv shows. Maria was a compassionate, generous, and loving woman who will be missed by many.

Maria is survived by her children: William Phillips, John Phillips, Dorothea Phillips, and Roland Phillips; and sister, Jacinta Purcell McGuire and her husband, Jim.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Roland Phillips; partner, Alex Smirnoff; and sister, Kateri Purcell.

A celebration of Maria’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at 11:00AM at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc. 122 West Main Street, Newark, DE 19711. Family and friends may attend the viewing beginning at 10:00AM. Burial will follow at Gracelawn Memorial Park.
