Margaret Stewart Greenplate, 85, gracefully departed this earthly realm on May 4, 2024, to reunite with her beloved husband, Alvin Eugene Greenplate, Sr., in the boundless embrace of Heaven. Born on March 27, 1939, in Wilmington, Delaware, she was the eldest child of 6, a cherished daughter of the late Clinton Harvey Stewart and Margaret Mary Stewart (nee, Scully).
Margaret’s journey was marked by love, laughter, and devotion. A graduate of Wilmington High School, Class of 1957, as well as a graduate of Goldey Beacon School of business in 1961. She then embarked on a career for the Dupont Corporation, where her diligence and warmth endeared her to colleagues. She enjoyed raising her Three children, Elizabeth, Alvin II, and David. However, her true calling awaited in the role of a nurturing grandmother. With joyous abandon, Margaret embraced her retirement, dedicating herself wholeheartedly to her eldest two grandchildren; Alvin III, and Kasey. Her home became a sanctuary of play, laughter, cookies and chicken and dumplings. She later eagerly appreciated traveling to Maryland, visiting and attending events for her younger grandchildren; David II, Christopher, and Natalie. She delighted in endless games of Hide and Go Seek and Peek-a-Boo with her great grandchildren; Sophia and Oliver. Selfless play and “again again” were woven into the fabric of family lore.
Margaret also found fulfillment in giving back to her community and pursuing hobbies. She enjoyed crocheting in her spare time, donating many blankets to hospitals for new babies and was a Phanatical viewer of the Phillies and Jeopardy in the evenings. Weekends often saw her at the family’s Beach House in Lewes, Delaware, where she relished in shared moments of happiness. Often, she could be found chatting with her beloved Neighbor Suzie on their private docks at the canal. Additionally, Margaret generously volunteered for the USMC’s Toys for Tots annual drive, bringing joy to numerous children with her generosity and dedication.
Margaret leaves behind a legacy of being munificent and humbly loving as a mother, aunt, cousin, sister, grandmother, friend, and great grandmother.
A celebration of Margaret’s Life will take place on Friday, May 17, 2024, at 11:00 am at R. T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, 122 West Main Street, Newark, Delaware. The family will warmly welcome friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Instead of a traditional reception, we encourage each family member to honor Margaret’s memory by sharing stories and cherished moments around their own dining room tables. Let her spirit live on in the laughter and love shared among those closest to her.
