Margaret Avampato of Bel Air, MD passed away peacefully February 17, 2021 at Union Hospital in Elkton, MD following a short stay at Calvert Manor Nursing Home. She was 95, born September 24, 1925, in Latrobe, PA, the youngest of eight born to Frank and Pearl Spewock.
She was the devoted wife of James Avampato for 58 years, who preceded her in death as well as her daughter, Linda Engard. She graduated from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and worked in Washington, DC as a commercial artist before returning to Latrobe to marry. She was an accomplished artist who displayed in the Havre de Grace Art Show and Nora Lees in Bel Air. She continued to paint in her realistic style for most of her life. She was an avid gardener growing beautiful flowers along with a large garden. She loved cooking, baking and preparing large meals for her family. She was a skilled seamstress who, with her daughter Linda, ran an alteration business out of her home. Marge was known for her quick wit and positive outlook on life.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother and is survived by her son, Joseph Avampato (Debbie) of Havre de Grace; daughter, Cynthia Tinney of Harvey, LA; son-in-law, Robert Engard of Bel Air; grandchildren: James Avampato (Megan) of Abingdon, Joseph Avampato (Amy) of Havre de Grace, Zachary Tinney of Mississippi and Jolene Perry of New Orleans; great grandchildren: Mara, Cameron and Elanor.
