Mae Ola (Roland ) Johnson, age 87 of Conowingo, MD, went peacefully to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 surrounded by loved ones. She was born on July 12, 1926 in Jefferson, NC to the late Walter Wade and Ella (Weaver) Roland.
She was a dedicated member of Porter’s Grove Baptist Church, where she volunteered as church treasurer for many years. She also loved singing in the church choir. She was especially known for sharing her love for the Lord with so many by sending cards of encouragement, making phone calls and sharing the abundance of her vegetable garden with family and friends.
Mae Ola is survived by her sons Jim Johnson and wife Sheila of Honey Grove, TX, Tom Johnson and wife Ginny of Port Deposit, MD, Billy Johnson and wife Linda of Nottingham, PA, Wally Johnson and wife Kim of Rising Sun, MD, and Benny Johnson and wife Tara of Conowingo, MD; daughters Becky Wagman and husband Bill of Churchville, MD, Kathy Anderson and husband Howard of Glenville, PA, Janni Sharpless and husband Jim of Rising Sun, MD and Ellie Newsome and husband Joe of Conowingo, MD; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 2 expected great grandchildren; sister Nadine Foskey of Hockessin, DE; and step-brother Bill Barber of Cochranville, PA and many nieces and nephews.
Mae Ola is preceded in death by her husband Roscoe, a daughter Mary Ladd, grandson David, and two great grandsons Andy and Nathanael, two brothers Ben and Ronnie Roland and a sister, Kathleen Burchette.
A service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Porter’s Grove Baptist Church, 478 Connelly Rd., Rising Sun, MD 21911. Friends and family may visit 6-8 PM on Friday February 21, 2014 at the church and on Saturday at 10 AM prior to the service.
