Luther R. Gilliam, age 91, of Port Deposit, MD passed away on February 24, 2013. Luther was born in Phenix, VA on November 22, 1921 to the late Luther R. Gilliam & Hannie (Pugh) Gilliam.
Luther was a veteran of the Army having served from 1942-1945 and 1950-1951 in Company C, 393rd, 99th Division. He was a Prisoner of War in Germany during WWII having been captured on December 16, 1944 at the Battle of the Bulge and was liberated on April 29, 1945. Luther worked as a Medical Photographer and he retired from the Perry Point VA Hospital in 1979. He was a member of the Biological Photographic Association. He was also a member of the West Nottingham Presbyterian Church and the American Legion Post #194 in Rising Sun, MD.
He is survived by his son, Donald Luther Gilliam and his wife Kathie of Raleigh, NC; daughters, Christine Ryan and her husband James of Nottingham, PA & Jane Lerch and her husband John of Gainesville, VA; grandchildren, Nathan Ryan, Joshua Ryan, Robert Lerch, Katerina Lerch, Ashton Wade and Grayson Gilliam; 4 great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his wife of 49 years, Ethel V. Gilliam who passed away in 1999.
A Service will be held 11:00am on Saturday, March 2, 2013 at West Nottingham Presbyterian Church, 1195 Firetower Road, Colora, MD 21917 where family and friends may call one hour prior.
Burial will follow at West Nottingham Cemetery.
