Born on Saturday, July 4, 1936, in Wilmington, Delaware, she was the cherished daughter of the late Isabel and Francis Thomas, Sr. Louise was the devoted wife of 53 years to James Mackie, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2008.
Louise had a gift for maintaining order and comfort in her home, tending to every detail with care and precision. She enjoyed knitting in her younger years. An adventurer at heart, Louise embraced the open road, sharing countless memories with her family through RV camping adventures, all while striving to explore all 50 states.
An integral part of her community, Louise was an active member of the Christiana Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, standing alongside her husband as he served. Her unwavering faith was evident in her lifelong membership at Christiana United Methodist Church, where she found strength and fellowship.
Louise’s legacy of love and kindness will forever resonate in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, parents, daughter Amy Lynne Mackie, and baby sister Barbara.
She is survived by her loving son, James Mackie, Jr., and his devoted wife, Deborah, as well as her brothers, Francis Thomas, Jr., and Robert Thomas, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members who adored her.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Thursday, April 11, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at R. T. Foard & Jones Funeral Home, located at 122 West Main Street, Newark, Delaware. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Friday, April 12, 2024, at 11:00 AM, with an hour of visitation preceding the service. Louise will be laid to rest in Sharp’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Louise’s honor to The Alzheimer’s Association, c/o the Funeral Home.
