Louise Rose Hale, age 98, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Tuesday March 17, 2026. She was born on December 9, 1927 in Philadelphia, PA, to the late Paul Emmanuel McClean and Violet Mary (Hunt) McClean.
Louise was a woman of remarkable talent and discipline. She had a keen eye for design and played an integral role in creating the homes her family built throughout Newark, DE, and Maryland. Her thoughtful vision and attention to detail can still be seen in the spaces that brought comfort and joy to so many.
Known for her exceptional organization and steady nature, Louise approached life with purpose and care. She was a gifted seamstress who found joy in knitting and took comfort in reading, often losing herself in a good book for hours at a time.
Louise also embraced time spent with others. She enjoyed playing bridge and shuffleboard, sharing laughter and companionship with friends. In the winter months, she found happiness in Davenport, FL, where she appreciated the warmth and slower pace of life.
One of Louise’s most cherished routines was sitting on the deck overlooking the Elk River, always under her umbrella, peacefully reading and taking in the beauty around her. These quiet moments reflected the calm and content spirit she carried throughout her life.
Faith was an important part of Louise’s life. She was a devoted member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Newark, DE, for over 50 years, where she found community, purpose, and lasting friendships.
Above all, Louise loved her family deeply. She will be remembered for her gentle presence, her creativity, and the steady, loving support she gave to those around her.
Louise is survived by her children: Sharon Meyer, Paul Hale, and Brian Hale (Terry); grandchildren: Katharine Marteny, Andrew Stone, Brianna Hale, and Jamie Hale; and four great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Louise is preceded in death by her husband, Grover James Hale, and sister, Joyce Apostolico.
Services will be held privately. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made payable to “Ebenezer UMC” and sent in care of the funeral home, 122 West Main Street Newark, DE 19711.
