Lonnie Kenneth Clutter, age 84, of Elkton, MD was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Elkton Care & Rehab. Kenneth was born on December 22, 1928 in Centralia, W Va to the late William and Roda Clutter.
Kenneth proudly served in the US Navy as a Navy Diver, retiring after 26 years as a Senior Chief Petty Officer. Most of his time was spent in the Pacific Fleet during the Vietnam Era. He was awarded many citations while serving on various ships throughout his career. After retirement from the US Navy, Kenneth helped set up the JNROTC at Kempsville High School in Norfolk, VA. Following, a street was named in his honor, Chief Clutter Street.
Kenneth was a member of the Jane’s United Methodist Church in Rising Sun, MD, Rising Sun Lions Club where he was a former president, American Legion Post #194 of Rising Sun, MD and Naval Fleet Reserve Association Diamond State Branch 309. Kenneth earned his Eagle Scout in 1947 and was an Assistant Scout Master in Webster Springs, W Va. Kenneth enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, gardening and spending winters with his friends in Clearwater, FL.
Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Ruth B. (Dalton) Clutter of Rising Sun, MD; his daughter, Cynthia M. Vanmulligen of Long Beach, CA; brothers, Clarence Clutter of Buckhannon, W Va, John Clutter of Webster Springs, W Va, Jim Clutter of Ireland, W Va, David Clutter of Webster Springs, W Va, and Bruce Clutter of Lost Creek, W Va; sister, Suzie Young of Webster Springs, W Va; three granddaughters, Melisa Dalton-Nichols of Rising Sun, MD, Renae Dalton of Rising Sun, MD and Monica Dalton of Conowingo, MD; 7 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren; and all of their families. In addition to Kenneth’s parents, he was preceded in death by his step-mother who raised him, Mona Robinson Clutter; sisters, Mildred Petty and Grace Barger; brother, Wayne Clutter; step-son, Terry D. Dalton and great granddaughter, Kaysea S. Morgan.
A visitation will be held from 6 – 8 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2013 at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, P.A., 111 S. Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD. Services celebrating his life, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 15, 2013 at Jane’s United Methodist Church, 213 Walnut Street, Rising Sun, MD where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow in Brookview Cemetery in Rising Sun, MD with Military Honors by American Legion Post #194.
