Lois S. Matthews, formerly from Wilmington, Delaware, passed away at her daughter’s home in Rising, Sun, Maryland on March 1, 2018 at the age of 91. She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Winvert J. Matthews; her parents, Walter M. and Myrtle P. Shirley; her brother, Walter Shirley, Jr.; her brothers-in-law, Robert Valentine and Willis H. Matthews; and her nieces, Georginna Wallace and Meredith Valentine.

Lois was retired from the Hagley Museum and Library after 25 years of service. She was a member of Marshallton United Methodist Church and its Marion Rowe Circle.

Lois’ greatest joy was being with her family. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted daughter, Judi Matthews Miller (Stephen); grandson, Douglas L. Megee, Jr. (Susan); great grandchildren, Douglas L. Megee, III and Sarah I. Megee; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Valentine and her son, Wayne (Paula) and their son, Michael; sister-in-law Jacqueline Shirley and her daughter, Nannette and her grandchildren, Bill (Mary), Walter, Jacqueline, and Madeline; and her sister-in-law, Betty Matthews.

Upon Lois’ request, there will be no viewing and burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Those who wish to contribute in her memory may do so to a charity of their choice.
