Lillian Howle Forster, age 85, of Newark, DE, passed away on Saturday, June 28, 2014 at Season’s Hospice at Christiana Care in Newark, DE. Lillian sought and finally received a well-deserved and merciful rest after a long illness. Lillian was born in Birmingham, AL, the daughter of the late Milton and Anna Howle. She graduated from Bel Air Maryland Senior High School and the University of Maryland at College Park.
After college graduation, Lillian taught briefly at the Bel Air Maryland Senior High School before moving to Baltimore, Maryland with her husband, Frank. A career opportunity for Frank brought them to Wilmington, DE where Lillian and Frank started their family. She became actively involved in several volunteer organizations such as mentoring in the local school systems and the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America.
Another move brought them to Newark, DE where Lillian was involved in her children’s activities as well as a developing interest in golf. She was an avid golfer and made two holes in one! Lillian was a former member of Newark Country Club where she was the 1987 Senior Club Champion and a former President of Delaware Women’s Golf Association. She was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church where she was involved in the Altar Guild and the Antique Show Committee.
Lillian was a very giving and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She instilled great family values in her children; her family will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Frank Forster; her children Greg Forster (Marcie), Patty Schubert (Marvin), Neal Forster (Lori), and Susan Ulrich (James); grandchildren Andrew Forster, Ryan Cowgill (Rebecca), Katie Cowgill, and Michael Henderson; great grandchildren Layla, Simon, and Willow.
In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her sisters Ada Anne Brown and Morel Howle.
We wish to express our gratitude to the staff of Newark Manor Nursing Home and Season’s Hospice, where Lillian received wonderful and loving care.
