Lillian Harriet Coleman of Elkton, MD, age 91, passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 in the company of her son and daughter. Lillian was born on August 24, 1929 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Meredith Scott and Ina Susan (Mitchell) Scott.
Lillian was a 1947 graduate of Simon Gratz High School in Philadelphia, PA. The following year she married the man she would spend the next 63 years of her life with building a family and creating memories to last a lifetime. On October 24, 1948 Lillian was united in holy matrimony to James Edward Coleman. This union produced four sons and a daughter. Lillian was a loving wife and mother who always supported her children and encouraged them to succeed. Lillian worked for many years of her long life, the better part of it at VIZ Manufacturing Company. She was a long-standing member of Grace Baptist Church in Philadelphia. Lillian was an avid Philadelphia Eagles football fan. She loved playing pinochle and later in life enjoyed bingo, although nothing “trumped” her love for her children. She loved to travel and had the opportunity to tour Europe with her husband and friends. Lillian was also an excellent cook. Everyone loved her homemade rolls, and her apple pie was Dwight’s, her first born child’s, favorite.
Lillian is survived by her sons: Dwight Coleman and his wife, Jacqueline of Bear, DE, Keith Coleman and his wife, Joyce of Columbus, NJ, Mark Coleman and his wife Marlon of Orlando, FL; daughter: Marta Rosario and her husband, Terrance of Middletown, DE; 8 grandchildren: Erik Coleman, Nicole McKinney, Rachel Coleman, Keith (KC) Coleman, Alicia Coleman, Marteka Coleman, Evan Rosario, and Avery Rosario; 10 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Debra Coleman of Verona, PA; sister-in-law, Virginia Coleman of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. In addition to her parents, Lillian is preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Coleman, Sr. who was her love and devotion, and son, James Edward Coleman, Jr.
Services for Lillian will be held privately and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be held at Washington Crossing National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the “American Cancer Society” and sent in care of R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 259 E. Main Street, Elkton, MD 21921.
