Lester J. Temple, Sr., age 91, passed away on January 5, 2014, at his home in Elkton, MD. He was born on October 6, 1922 in Wilmington, DE to the late John Temple and Myrtle (Cox) Shuck.
Lester was very involved with the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life. Most recently, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, Cecil District. Lester was a Scout Master of Boy Scout Troop #125 of Providence, MD, Boy Scout Troop #441 of Fair Hill, MD, Cub Scout Pack #173 of Calvert, MD and a committee member for pack #173 of Calvert, MD. In 2009, Lester received the Silver Beaver Award; the highest award given out for service that positively affects the youth within the community. He was a member of Rock Presbyterian Church. Lester also served his country during World War II, as a member of the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty A. Temple of Elkton, MD; his sons, Lester J. “Mickey” Temple, Jr. and his wife Lorraine of Rising Sun, MD, Michael W. Temple of Rising Sun, MD, Barry A. Temple of Elkton, MD, and Chris M. Temple and wife Darlene of Elkton, MD, as well as 9 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
His brother, John W. Temple, preceded Lester in death.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, January 12, 2014, from 6-8PM at R.T. Foard Funeral Home, 111 South Queen Street, Rising Sun, MD, 21911. A funeral service will take place on Monday, January 13, 2014 at 9:30AM at the funeral home where friends may call one hour prior. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in Lester’s name be made payable to the Northern Chesapeake Hospice Foundation and/or the Alzheimer’s Association, and mailed to the funeral home.
