Lemuel George Hammond, “Lem”, 89, of Rising Sun, MD passed away peacefully Sunday, September 21, 2014.
Born May 25, 1925 in Milford, DE, Lem was the son of the late Fredrick and Mary Hammond. Lem retired after 40 years of dedication to the duPont Company and went on to spend his time doing what he loved, golfing. He was an avid golfer and spent several years as a member of the Rising Sun Lions Club. Lem also cherished his time spent with his wonderful family and friends.
Lem is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Fran Hammond; daughter, Gayle Slawter; brother, Harold C. Hammond and his wife, Vicki; and his sisters, Barbara M. Lovett and her husband, Doug and Patricia M. Rittenhouse and her husband, George.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2014 at R.T. Foard & Jones, Inc., 122 W. Main St., Newark, DE 19711, where family and friends may visit beginning at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made payable to the Rising Sun Lions Club and sent in care to the funeral home.
